On The Table

Some interesting things that are happening at the BMC right now..
5-2-2012
Bob Cardwell announded some news at Spring Scrambles.  Said there were 124 bikes that attended the races.  Jeff Whitmer and Todd Silvas were thanked for helping at the gates.  A few minor injuries but nothing too serious.  Trophies that weren’t picked up.  Tim Weimer, Madison Webster,  Nefab Bushman, Zach Thronson, Gage Olsen, Adam Landry didn’t pick up their trophies.  Mark Cardwell was instrumental in helping lay the track out.. 10 loads of water were dropped on the track.   The Brew Crew did a ton of help on the truck too.

A special thank you from Darrel Cooper
Thank You
I would like to take a minute and thank Bob and Mark cardwell as well as
Darrel Devitt for taking the time and answering their phones and returning phone
calls we were coming from Greybull and concerned about the rain for the
scrambles event and these guys were very professional and polite and the BMC
does a great job at putting on these events My 7 year old son is just starting
to race and I can tell you that your club made a big impression on him he was he
was so excited to get a participant trophy and Mom and Dad were happy for him
Thanks to all of you at BMC for what you do  Sincerly Darrel Cooper
We are going to be getting folks from all over to attend this event.  There is contingency money from Yamaha… Troy Lee Designs has prizes and stuff for this event.   Mark says we all need to get involved.
Bob Cardwell asked what our return will be.  100% of the gate… They are buying the trophies… Trophy classes are 100% payback..  The club stands to really stick out…This is an event for the riders and by the riders.
Old Business:
Big Sky Challenge… In two weeks..  Bob Spadt will need help with it.  Darrell Devitt said that we gave out 154K in money at last year’s event… Big dough…
June 2nd will be the day for the new Supercross…   Rick Dittus is going to be building that track.. He rides the tracks and builds them so they have even flow all the way through.

Announcements:
Todd has an 06 Big Wheel CR 85.. Still has a new unopened Spark Arrestor and Spare plastics.
Bob  Cardwell has several Hill climbers

Luke Sherrard lost a set of Keys for a Subaru..  On the starting line, there was a set of starting blocks..

Meeting Adjourned…

Roger Ostermiller has finished framing the motocross building.  Electricity is in for the concession area.  This weekend will be a good test to see if the concession area will work with electricity.  Mark Cardwell wanted to thank Darrell Devitt and Roger Ostermiller for the exceptional work that they have done on the building.  Mike Schmidt at Ready Electric did all of the work on the building.
We need a ton of work on the track at flagging this weekend.  We anticipate between 300-400 riders this weekend.  Flaggers on Saturday and Sunday will be needed.  We are running transponders this weekend so we will need help pulling them and getting them on.  It should be a super weekend for this event.  Mark really needs the help..    Flagging video is all over this website if you want to see it!  Simply watch it..
All classes will be run on the big track….  The 50 races will be held on the front of the race track.
Woody asked if Julia could send out an e-mail blast to request flaggers..  Mark suggested that we need at least 12 flaggers.  Do your part and help out.    Darrell made a motion to get extra flags ordered for the club.
Darrell Reimers said that he was going to be flagging  during the event.

It’s been awhile since my last post but here’s what’s going on “from what I know”….  The Endurocross track is looking awesome… Not sure if you’ve seen it yet but it’s really something incredible.  Right next to it, you’ll see a pile of dirt being stacked for the Supercross track that is going in the third week of May.   The meeting that was held last Monday turned out to be very good… Rick Dittus was there for some insight as to how we should go about it.  This is going to be a pretty neat project that has several BMC members involved.  We are also going to be getting some major help from Tractor & Equipment.  The track should be pretty neat…
The first Hillclimb looked to be pretty fun..Thanks to all of the pictures that Brennon Sullivan took for our club.
Here are some shots that were taken on the cold rainy day…

Very interesting phone call today from a guy named Kenny Morris.. Kenny is part of the Brett Downey Foundation and called today requesting a title change on the Brett Downey video we have on our website.  Very neat guy!   He was very happy that the Billings Motorcycle Club was using the video that shows flaggers how to properly flag motocross events.   If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it.. Look at the Scrambles event and see it.  Jeff Emig is the guy that pulled it together.  Jeff is the guy that announces all of the Supercross events.   Kenny also asked if he could link to the video and send it around to all the events.   Pretty neat  that the association called us and asked if they could interlink with us!!!  Just though you should know what happens behind the door.
Or, here it is:
3-27-12
We have  Knife River coming out to dump a pile of sand for both Supercross and Endurocross track. Leo Zwemke and Bob Kober were gracious enough to donate several truckloads of sand at no cost to our club.  We simply have to pay for the fuel for the drucks to deliver it.  It’s very nice of this company to help our club out and if you know any of them, please thank them.  As you may or may not know the track is being  Designed by Cord Mitchell, Todd Lindsay , and Darrel Reimers.   The equipment is also being donated by Darrell Devitt, Bob Spadt and the BMC.  I can’t remember who it was that donated the tires and all of the telephone poles etc. etc.. I will try and get a few names here… The community has been awesome in helping us out.
Here is what is currently going on right now at the Endurocross Track:

Darrell talked about the gate.. Said Roger Ostermiller built the building that houses all the electronics.  They hope to get the readers in this weekend.  They will be testing…  Ray Halsey is bringing in more rocks…   The cards should be ready for the April 4th meeting.    Last week Bob Spadt went out and worked on the Borrow pit from the Caseys again.. He has been cleaning it all again this year ready for the rain…(if we have any)..
OLD BUSINESS–One of our members Pat Whitmer was recognized for doing an outstanding job at doing all of our banners, maps and event schedules…  I heard (from the grapevine) that he is going to be coming up with a picture that you’ll never forget…. Nobody wants to share the idea though… I can’t wait!!

3-8-12Ray Halsey’s Bike HAS BEEN FOUND!!!
Mike Marsh found a great video for all of you that still don’t know what the different colors mean on a motocross track or any other track (for that matter)… Might be a good time to watch it with your kid or yourself..  As a club, we try to do the best that we can to show our members and our guests how to ride safe and what to expect.. If you watch the video below, you’ll get an education on what to do… Thanks Mike…..Great Video.
3-7-12 Meeting Notes:
Wow, what a ton of folks at this meeting!!!!  26 New members to vote on tonight.  As always, we had all the potential members stand up.  As you know, pretty much every guy was a “good guy”…..   So, it looks like we are going to add a few several new faces to our club.  If you haven’t yet experienced this yearly event, it’s actually kind of fun..   There are always tons of laughs….
Ray Halsey mentioned to watch for his bike…..   Sure hope he gets it back..

PROMOTERS MEETING
2-29-2012
Meeting held at the Archie Cochrane Ford Fleet Center (Thanks to Garry Brayko Owner of the Dealership for letting us use the Building) .  We all squeezed into the Technology Lab and had one productive meeting..There were more folks there that anticipated.  With the use of the internet and the projector, we were able to check over our website to talk about tweaks for the coming year.
Some suggestions are as follows: –
Pat Whitmer and Mike Weiland with the help of the promoters will get up the brochures that will have race information for each event.  You will be able to download it and throw it in your back pocket for the day of event.
Our website should also have an aerial map that shows folks that are new to our grounds where to park and camp (if it’s a two day event).. More or less get folks some kind of a map to follow when they show up….  Jason Pinter, if you have some aerial maps, let me know, or we can simply do a google map..
Tim Boelter will split the event tabs in half and have general rules for the event off to the right side.. Hard to explain… but you’ll see soon…
PROMOTERS, Must get all of their information turned in for the events by the end of March. For example:  The board needs to know of volunteers for certain jobs that are at the events.  The public also needs to know what’s expected of them… SUCH AS   “NO DOGS ALLOWED” At Events..   Also, the different classes that exist and age groups etc. etc. etc…  All has to be done by the end of March!!!!!
The Promoter also needs to designate a PR Guy or Gal.. There shouldn’t be multiple folks talking to the media about events other than who the designated PR person is.
–We talked about getting some videos made to watch for the folks that are going to volunteer.. These videos are going to be for folks that work the tracks and need to understand what the different flag colors represent.  We will also try to get some videos for riders.  Some of the new folks that show up don’t know what Flags are for..   We simply need to educate everyone…
Pat Whitmer and Mike Weiland are going to try and come up with something that is BMC based in the future on the flags.. Would be nice to keep it in house..    Might have a little fun too.
Sponsor List–There are several folks that sponsor our club on a yearly basis.. We, as a club need to acknowlege them and keep them in mind when it comes to doing business in our community.  We will come up with a list of Businesses that do their part to help us so you can at least see who they are.
The Media will be getting a list of all our functions this year.  The schedule will be e-mailed to them and they will be contacted when the events are upcoming.
Rules from the Handbook will be posted for the events if the board elects to do so.  For example:  Classes of Bikes for BMC events.  Hill Climbs, Motocross, Cross Country, Sand Drags…. You know the drill….    Keeping the public informed here is what we are trying to do.
We also talked about contacting one of the Boarding facilities for the Dogs.  Maybe see if they can set up folks that come to the events with their dogs.  We don’t want to keep folks from our events but in the past, we had someone that was bitten by a dog… We simply can’t have that happen again.  Roger Ostermiller wants to head that up since he has some dog experience..  Just Joking Roger..lol
If I am missing something Promoters, please let me know..  It was a fantastic meeting and we had everything but the Tacos that Darrin Bienvenue promised to bring..

Darrell Devitt and I walked the track and measured it out so that we can set up some direction as to the available options for the Supercross Track.  (Thaks to Roger, the 10′ posts really helped out!) The dimensions may or may not be used but we simply want to get a good idea what’s available to the club for working on a new track this year.  As you may or may not know, there has been $5000 donated in the last couple of years from Archie Cochrane Ford for this project.. The 4″ waterline that comes from the golf course line will be rebuilt too.. Instead of hooking up the truck with that huge rubber hose, you’ll be able to park under the line and simply fill the water truck and drive away.  As you know, a couple of years ago the driver forgot to unhook the hose and almost ripped the line from the ground.   Accidents happen but we’ll now be able to forget about that old system..   There is a fairly large interest in this project and we all want you to be a positive influence on the project.  If you come to the next few meetings come and see me if you want to help out.. I’d love to have you as part of the team.
For now, the dimensions have been sent to Rick Dittus.. Rick has been highly instrumental in building some great tracks in Bowman SD and in Rapid City.  Many of the motocrossers know him and respect his ability to build.   As time goes on, I will post more information in regards to the Supercross Track…

Wish I had more to report on this meeting but there simply wasn’t much going on.  Daryl Reimers was
able to get the June Dates for the Elk Basin Race scheduled with the BLM.. For all of your Cross Country Folks, it might be a good idea to thank him.. Having to deal with government can’t be much fun..  I hope that the Sage Grouse survives all of the motorcyles…geez….
Darrell Devitt said that the gate is about finished and ready to use.  I also heard that there are a few Miller beverages just waiting to go down the hatch too.. You’ll have to get with Darrell on that.
I asked Rick Shaver about the classes for the Supercross.. He and Scott Schmitt were going to get back to me and let me know what the classes were going to look like for it..  As you know, the BMC Supercross is going to be on a Saturday after the Reiter’s Classic Race on a Friday.  Odds are that the classes will stay the same to accommodate the two races.. Should be fun.. Hope you at least get one in..
By the way, a few of you thought I ran off with the Miller Trophy at the Awards Banquet… Nope, it wasn’t me.. Not sure who the culprit was….  Oh, Todd Lindsay had an award go to Billings, Germany…lol
Again, even though we don’t talk about a ton of things at this time of year, I simply go to get away and have a good laugh.. The meetings are fun…    If you guys want me to ask anything, just e-mail me or call me…   I know how tough it is to get to the meetings… I also want you to know that you are every bit as important to the meetings…Even if you can’t get there.

HOLY SMOKES…
The challenge is on.. Darrell Devitt and Josh Greni is going to take up the Bud Light Challenge from Rick Shaver and Scott Schmitt……
There will always be 2 cases of Miller Lite in the Fridge (super cold) and a little work will get you some beverage action…
Signed,
Darrell Devitt
Josh Greni
OK Club Members, it’s up to you to see who wins this Challenge…So what is it that the winner actually wins?  Maybe we need to have some kind of vote at the end of the year to see who did the best to represent their beverage?  Are you all in????????????
2-7-12
So here’s some really interesting things that have happened in the last week.  As you can see, I finally have a schedule that was sent in.. Hope I have the time slots right.  Also, you can download one for yourself by simply going to “On the Table” and clicking on the Quick Links below.  (if you have some links that the club would benefit from, send them to me)…

The banquet was “as usual” a blast.  There were several awards given this year and the winners of the Chili Contest were:
1.Pat Whitmer
2.Woody Nies
3.Kirk Kagarise
This year we also had a brand new award.. It’s called the “Bud Light” award.  I think it stands to mention too, that Rick Shaver and Scott Schmitt are up for anyone who has the “guts” to challenge them and take it away.
The rules are very simple:
1.You have to be brand loyal!
2.Plus, you always have to have enough to hand out  to your cheap buddies that never care to have any beverages on hand..
3.If that isn’t enough, you have to volunteer tons of your time for the BMC grounds..
Must be willing to step up if asked…
If any of the Miller boys dare to take the challenge, I’m sure it will be quite the battle for 2012.

Rick Shaver and Scott Schmitt–Winners of the 2012 Bud Light “brand loyal” Award…

If you haven’t been able to see the gate yet, “neither have I”, lol   Anyway, Darrel and the crew are still working on getting this thing up and running for all of us.  How cool will it be to simply swipe your card and get in.. No more having to get out and open the gate.. Heck  your kids will even love it..  I’m sure you have them get out to open the current gate as I do..  I can’t believe the amount of work that’s going into this gate for us all..Thanks to all that I forget to mention.. You are very well appreciated.

Pre-Meeting:
Supercross Discussion..  We are thinking of building the track in more of an Arenacross Fashion.. A track that can be ridden
by Pro’s and also rolled by the little bikes.
Committee put together- So far, we have a pretty good crowd interested and willing to help out.  If you would like to join us, please
let us know.. The more input, the better..
As you know, Rick Shaver and Scott Schmitt are going to get things rolling this year with the Supercross…  Let’s all help and have fun.
A couple Supercross races this year should be a really cool deal!
Discussion on the types of equipment we need:
Front End Loader
Skid Steer with tracks–if possible
Dozer
Dump Truck
Club Meeting:
Promoters Meeting Scheduled:
DATE: February 29th, 2012
Daryl Reimers put together a plan to have club members get together and talk about promoting our club this year.. GOOD IDEA DARYL!!!
The meeting will be held in the Archie Cochrane Ford Fleet Center building.  The fleet center has a large computer room that will allow
us to really communicate with one another.  It will held at 7:00 PM..  Come join us if you have some questions or suggestions…  Call me (Mike)
and I’ll give you directions on how to get here.  4066704424
Out of the blue,
Randy Kreiter was noted as winning several events at the BMC grounds in the 70′s… Darrell Devitt chimed in and quickly reminded him that he beat him all the time.  “get a bunch of ADD guys together and that’s what happens”  Good Laughs Though.  THURSDAY CONFESSION—Darrell notes that they only time he saw the back of Randy’s bike was at the Starting Line and when he was being lapped…
Front Gate Discussion:  The gate will be getting set in the next couple of weeks.  Dennis Bauers (spelling) welded the entire gate.. Bob, Josh and Darrell have
everything in the ground too. I was out there last week and forgot to take a picture. Looks awesome.  Should be ready to go soon.
Remember the Banquet coming up this Saturday.. The Chili cooking competition has been set and the judge will be Rick Shaver… All
I can say is I feel bad for Toni! Beer and Beans!!  Send him to the other room that night Toni!!!  Thanks for being the volunteer Rick!
Bob Cardewell noted that that the Scrambles will be held Sunday April 29th.. The Big Sky Challenge is the 5th and 6th of May.. Basically,
we are right around the corner to racing again.. Bob asked us all to think about getting the volunteering done early in the season..
Bob says that we will need around 30 members to get the Scrambles going.. I’m not kidding you either!!! You really don’t want to miss this event.  I personally think I
might give it a try again this year.  I’ve been on the treadmill… lol  For the rest of you old guys, show your kids that you aren’t as
old as they think you are…
The motocross building is coming together nicely as well.   Lonny and Dusty Quast as well as Rob Johnson have been at it pretty hard.  If you haven’t seen what
these guys have been up to, drive out and check it out. They have been out there several days this last
week getting it put together.  Thanks for doing that guys!
Harry Staley came in this week and joined us at the meeting…  Darrell Devitt gave him a Kudos for helping us out AGAIN with adding some extra tires for the welder. So far,
Harry has been gracious enough to help our club out with many donations and his time… Folks, this is what the Club is all about… Thanks Harry
If some of you need a set of tires or anything for your car, go see Harry!
Announcements:
Curt Bushman asked us all to be aware of the elections coming up..
“We are coming up on election season.”  There are several political groups around the area that have been rating politicians and where they stand
on positions such as where people ride and when we ride.  Make sure you support candidates that support the right to ride. Hope I have a little more on that at the next meeting.
Apparently Elk Basin might be in jeopardy of being held this year… At least getting a permit to run it (early in the season)…  Daryl Reimers says that is has something to do with Sage Grouse being threatened… Might it
be because of predetors?  At least that’s what the ranchers and farmers are saying.  It also seems like what’s good for one state is good for all of them.  Or, at least that’s what some in Washington DC think…Geez
Ray Halsey is still selling his KX Motorcycles, can’t remember what they were.. Not sure why they aren’t posted on this Website?
Cardwell Racing has several Hillclimbers for sale… Also should be posted on our site..
Donny Erhart has some Hillclimbers for sale… He says he’s got a 650 twin, a Tiel? 1000, and a ZX10 for sale..
Todd Teyler needs a 12′ tandem trailer.
That’s all for now folks.. For those of you that can’t make it to the meetings, this is what you are missing out on..  Hope to stay in touch with you guys a little more
this year.. However, it’s always nice to see you here.

Now down to the nuts and bolts of the meeting.. There were a few rule changes that were voted on.. You’ll simply have to check out the new rulebook or get in touch with someone that was there.. I don’t think I want to tackle trying to explain them….
There will be a new Motocross Series that our BMC will become a part of.. From the sounds of it, it will be an unbelievable event that will draw a large crowd of riders.. This motocross event will include Bozeman, Helena, Billings, and the Livingston Track.   Some of the guys that seem to know quite a bit more about it, are Mark Cardwell and Bob Arnett..  Sounds pretty cool though…  More info. as I get it in the future..
11:00 AM Report  Thursday January 19th…  Mark Carwell reports that the Website is up…
http://www.bigskymxchallenge.com/
Many Thanks to:
Ray Halsey for bringing those huge rocks to put in front of the gates so people don’t hit the electronics (and gate)…
Thanks also to Dennis Bauer for welding up the entire cattle guard.. Man, that guy can weld.
Thanks to Kurt Weber for work on the Great American and all the work on the ridge between the Big Sky HC and the Night Time Hill Climb Hills… As many of your know, the hills needed some serious work and as you remember all the water this Spring made a huge mess close to the County Road…  With all the blading work and the volunteer work that was done, our entry to the club looks pretty darn nice…
Thanks also goes out to Harry Staley from Staley’s Tire and Service for donating brand new tires on the BMC Fuel Trailer…AT NO CHARGE..
One last note, there are many folks that are members of our club that own businesses in our community.  I would like to encourage you to think about where ou do business in our community.  Many of these folks donate tons of time and quite a chunk of change to our club…  Personally, it means alot to me and I do think of our club member if I need something of my own.. .I would encourage you to do the same…

We are currently getting set for the 2012 Awards Party held at the Knights of Columbus Saturday the 4th of February… 6:30 P.M.. No Host Bar and Dinner at 7:00 P.M..
See Front Page of website for more information!
The schedule is very close to being complete..  Remember to, the 3rd week of March is the actual date of Keys(gate cards), and new members…That’s the 21st for those of you that are new…   The BMC has a meeting every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at the Knights of Columbus in Billings… For all of you other members that don’t attend the meeting, it’s at 8:00 P.M..
Some things on the table this year, are the Supercross track getting water and possibly a facelift.. Plans may include a complete overhaul that allows for a watering system donated by Archie Cochrane Ford.  The watering system will be comprised of a recessed line that isn’t in the way. (The whole thing will be in the ground)   Of course, the track will most likely be rebuilt and done so that future generations will be able to utilize the watering system and track for future events.  (On the Table) So far, from what I understand, Rick Shaver and Scott Schmitt are going to have a Supercross Event.  When the Schedule is set in stone, I will post it.   The  water will run from the line that the golf course uses to the Supercross track and hopefully the Endurocross Track.    Darrell Devitt and a crew have already pulled out the old steel lines that used to stick out of the Supercross Track.  From what I heard, the lines were already rotted out and looked like Swiss Cheese when pulled from the ground.   Currently, they have already burried the Plastic Pipe from the golf course line to the chainlink fence.
Some of you may have seen the huge tires sitting out on the scrambles track… Yes, those tires will be burried halfway in the ground and part of a the Endurotrack.   I believe that we will have this track right smack dab in the middle of the Scrambles Track!  Wow, what a cool deal for members!  3 tracks right in the heart of our club.
For some of you that want to get hours in for this next year, both track will need considerable help..
Last but certainly not least, the gate will have cards this year… No more having to get out of your vehicle and open the gate..  Or, sending your kid out to do it..  Darrell Devitt and his committed crew have vowed to get this thing done by the time we give out keys(cards) this year.   That’s the 21st of March.  There were a few setbacks in this project but it looks like they were able to get them in order to make this happen.. What a Cool Deal..  I personally want to thank all of you guys that put in way more hours than needed for our club to get these projects finished.
There’s ton’s more going on.. If I get some info., I’ll post it in the future.. Until then, Stay Warm and don’t get hurt this winter..There’s tons of riding just around the corner.
By the way, Tim Boelter and I were wondering how everyone that participated in the Reiter’s Classic Races liked the Online Signup system… We tried a few different things but I think the last couple were pretty cool..Signing up for multiple events on one signup form was pretty neat an PayPal made it easy to manage for payment.  Just a little feedback would be cool..
